 THE YOUTH AND LEADERSHIP
(OYO State as a Case study)

The good people of Oyo have a saying which is gradually translated to their belief…”they don’t serve a master twice”. This assertion will ones again be put to test as the 2015 elections draw nearer.
The incumbent wishes for a return as the number one citizen of the state, while other candidates vie for the same noble office.
It is no doubt that the determinant to that office relies solely on the activities of the political elites. Most importantly, any aspirants vying for the office of the Governor of Oyo state must have the know-how of handling this office.
Prominent of such know-how is Youthfulness. I have always advocated that this nation at all level should the youth the opportunity to lead each sector and state to greater heights.
Holistically, a nation at 54 ought to have attained the heights of a developed nation, but Nigeria is ironically unfit to be determined a developed nation at all sectors. The cause of this have been greatly attributed to bad leadership at the central, corruption at the central, impunity at the central…
I stand not to be corrected that the problem of Nigeria is not centre-based but mostly on the closest governments to the citizens; the local and state government.
As much as some blames could be apportioned to the Federal government, many of these ‘blames’ must be forwarded to the state governors and houses of assembly.
Most of the individuals who has over the years held the office of state governors are closely in their old ages or retirement ages (60s). This brings back the need for youths as governors. Most of the governors who are performing in their state are still young, even those who are getting old-aged recognizes the place of youths to perform outstandingly.
Furthermore, the minds of the electorate should begin to change from voting in people who should be preparing for retirement or the ‘acclaimed youths’ influenced by old cargos, who would want nothing but to be the ‘afobajes’, those who are a party to imposition of estranged policies and individuals, noise-makers, pocket-centric, power-drunk and icon of mischief. The aftermath of this is grievance between the ‘afobajes’ and their lapdogs (who are voted in as governors).
Furthermore, it is becoming very clear why the intelligence of Oyo state people would not allow a return for those who have failed, but prefers to usher in a new breed for the way forward, who would rebuild our economy on a new, workable foundation which will affect all and sundry, not minding the class. Who will desire a clueless leadership for another round of carelessness. Hence, the saying; Oyo state will not allow the return of a failure.
Finally on “The Youth And Leadership”, the decision of who rules Oyo in the coming 2015 should hinge on agility, freshness, dynamic, Selfless, Efficient, Young, Intelligent, and Mentor, it should not be a decision of some broom-carrier sweeping the lots of Oyo people to the purse of an already rich individual—all in mischievous respect to a ‘self acclaimed title holder -jagab...’
Let us usher in a new breathe into the waters of Oyo state, let us allow for a fresh captain to pilot the affairs of this state, it is time for a new dawn. Long Live Oyo State .
